Featuring Josh Schultz

Josh Schultz comes to IPFW from Indiana University Southeast, where he spent two seasons as the head coach.

In the 2008 season, Schultz led the Grenadiers to a 32-24 record, the KIAC Championship, the KIAC Tournament Championship and an appearance in the NAIA Region XII Tournament. The regular season was highlighted by wins over NCAA Division I opponent University of Evansville, and two NAIA top-25 teams. For his team's accomplishments, Schultz was recognized as the KIAC Coach of the Year. The Grenadiers had 12 selections on the All-Conference Teams, three Region XII Players of the Week and one Region XII Pitcher of the Week. In the classroom, the Grenadiers tripled the number of KIAC All-Scholar Team members during his tenure.

The 2007 season was highlighted by victories over eventual Region XII Champion Union (KY) College and Region XI Champion Cumberland (TN) University. The Grenadiers had nine KIAC All-Conference selections and equaled their longest winning streak (6) since 2003. Two Grenadiers were named KIAC Pitcher of the Week and four received KIAC Player of the Week honors, including one Region XII Player of the Week.

Prior to IU Southeast, Schultz served two seasons as an assistant at University of the Cumberlands. The Patriots won 79 games in his two seasons, including a Region XI Runner-Up finish in 2005 and Mid-South Conference Championship in 2006. While at the Cumberlands, Schultz was responsible for outfielders and assisted with hitting instruction. Five Patriot outfielders were named All Mid-South Conference under Schultz's tutelage. In 2006, the Patriot offense finished in the top-5 nationally in triples per game (2nd, 0.473), batting average (4th, 0.362), doubles per game (4th, 2.509), runs scored per game (5th, 8.691), and runs batted in per game (5th, 7.945). Three Cumberlands position players were also named NAIA All-American following the 2006 season.

In the summers, Schultz coached for the Cheyenne Grizzlies of the Mountain Collegiate Baseball League from 2005-2007. In 2005, he served as assistant coach for the inaugural season of the team and league. In 2006 and 2007, he returned as the team's head coach. His squad's increased their win totals and improved their winning percentage in each season as head coach.

Prior to Cumberlands, he served for six successful seasons as a high school assistant coach. Schultz was assistant coach at Campbell County High School in 2004, and Pendleton County High School from 1999 thru 2003. Schultz helped lead his teams to district titles in 2000, 2002, and 2004. In his only season at Campbell County, the team posted an eight game improvement from the previous season. In 2003, he was on the coaching staff for the East All-Star team in the KHSBCA East-West All-Star game.

Schultz also coached in summer leagues while in the high school ranks leading teams to the finals of the league tournament and to a USSSA World Series appearance in 2003 and 2004.

Three of Schultz's former players have been selected in the last two MLB First Year Player Drafts. Three of Schultz's former players have also played in various independent professional leagues.

A graduate of Kettering University (MI) and Pendleton County (KY) High School, Schultz is single and resides in Fort Wayne.
