The Advanced Skills Camp will be held on Saturday, January 12th at Wausau East High School in Wausau, Wisconsin. The Pitching\Catching Session will run from 9 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The Hitting Session will run from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Each player will be assigned a skill session time based on distance from camp, or by special circumstances. There will also be a one hour weight lifting seminar before or after each skill session. The cost of the camp will be $100 for one session (Pitching/Catching or Hitting) or $200 for two sessions. WE WILL ONLY BE ACCEPTING 48 PITCHERS, 48 HITTERS AND 20 CATCHERS FOR THIS CAMP. ONCE WE ARE FILLED, REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE.

The Advanced Skills Camp is designed to address the serious player who wants to improve their game. Coach Rob Smith of Creighton University will be the lead instructor at this camp. Coach Smith has been involved in Wisconsin baseball now for the past eight years conducting camps and coaching in the Northwoods League. In 2001 he earned the first Northwoods League Championship in Wisconsin Woodchucks history. This past season at Creighton, he helped lead the Blue Jays to a 45-16 overall record which included a top 20 national ranking and a #2 seed in the Fayetteville NCAA regional. His 2007 pitching staff which included three all Americans and two major league baseball draft choices finished 14th in the nation in earned run average. The success of the 2007 season added to Creighton’s impressive four year run spanning from 2004 to 2007. During this time, Creighton has the second highest winning percentage of all Midwestern division one schools only behind Wichita State. In addition, Creighton is only one of nine Midwestern schools that have been to four or more regionals in the past nine seasons.

PITCHING/CATCHING SESSION (AGES 10-19):
This session will include advanced instruction and problem solving on all aspects of pitching including mechanics, pitch variation, delivery tempo, and adjustments to improve command. We will work via lecture and drills throughout the course of the sessions. The catching segment will cover various drills for receiving, blocking and throwing footwork. During the skill sessions, pitchers will be divided into small groups, with all bullpen work being done one-on-one with Coach Smith, Coach Maliszewski and Coach Sawyers. Catchers will work in small groups with one-on-one instruction from Coach Cicora and Coach Welker.

HITTING SESSION (AGES 10-19):
This session will focus on sound fundamental techniques of hitting via lecture, tee work, dry swing breakdown, side toss, and live hitting in the cage. Each hitter will work individually in the cage with our College Coaching Staff during the skill session. Hitters will be divided into groups and will receive many swings. Batting gloves are suggested.
