Featuring Chris Maliszewski
Chris Maliszewski joined the Valpo baseball staff prior to
the 2007 season as an assistant coach, serving as the outfield and catching
instructor. He also serves as the recruiting coordinator for the
Crusaders.
Prior to joining the Valparaiso coaching staff, Maliszewski
served as the volunteer assistant coach for the University of Iowa in 2005 and
2006. Working with the pitching staff in 2005, he helped lead the Hawkeyes to
one of their most successful seasons in program history, posting a 19-13 mark in
the Big Ten.
Maliszewski has also coached in the Northwoods League, a top
collegiate wood bat summer league, leading the Mankato Moondog pitching staff in
2004 and serving as the associate head coach of the Madison Mallards in 2005 and
2006. He was named Coach of the Year with Madison after leading the Mallard
pitching staff to the best earned run average in league
history.
Throughout his brief coaching career, Maliszewski has helped 10
players sign professional contracts.
Before beginning his coaching
career, Maliszewski was a four-year letterwinner for Iowa, posting a 7-10 career
record with three saves. As a sophomore, he earned the win in Iowa's win over
Illinois, sending the Hawkeyes to the Big Ten Tournament for the first time
since 1991.
He graduated from Iowa in 2004 with a bachelor's degree in
health, leisure, and sports studies.
