Featuring Ryan Sawyers

Assistant Coach Ryan Sawyers joined the Broncbuster coaching staff in November 2005. He came to Garden City after coaching for two seasons at Allegany College of Maryland under the Junior College Hall of Fame Coach Steve Bazarnic, who is the winningest active JUCO coach in the country.
Coach Sawyers' main responsibilities within the Busters coaching staff will be to serve as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator.

In 2004 Coach Sawyers was the pitching coach for the Chillicothe (Ohio) Paints Professional Baseball Club (Independent A). The Paints led the Eastern Division of the Frontier League in ERA and had two pitchers' contracts purchased by affiliated teams.

For the 2 003-04 academic year Ryan was the volunteer assistant coach at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind. He worked primarily with the pitching staff while he was a Boilermaker, assisting the pitching coach with everyday duties. The Boilers finished that season with a trip to the Big Ten Championship Tournament in Minneapolis, Minn.

Sawyers began his coaching career at Shepherd College (now University) in Shepherdstow, W. Va. in the fall of 2000. After spending one season as the volunteer assistant coach, Ryan was promoted to pitching coach. During his first year as pitching coach the Rams finished the season ranked 1st in the West Virginia Conference in ERA and 29th in the country. The Rams accomplished the same conference ranking in 2003 marking the first time in college history they had led the league in ERA for back-to-back seasons. That summer Coach Sawyers was the head coach of the Front Royal Cardinals in the Valley Baseball League in Virginia.

Coach Sawyers finished his collegiate playing career at West Virginia Wesleyan College where he was named Conference Pitcher of the Year in 1999 after leading the conference in strikeouts and ERA. Sawyers also played two seasons at Allegany College of Maryland where he was a member of the 1997 World Series team. During his two years playing at Allegany the Trojans had an overall record of 77-13.

Sawyers also played for the Chillicothe Paints in 2000 and as a rookie posted a 4-2 record with one save.
